Audio Production
Project Synopsis

This entry highlights a collection of audio works produced during my time in MSUM’s Audio Production course and through additional collaborations within the music department. These pieces were created using a mix of live studio recordings, MIDI sequencing, and digital editing in Pro Tools, often paired with M-Audio hardware.

Assignments ranged from structured class projects to more experimental performances and compositions for ensembles. Each piece reflects a different exploration in sound design, recording techniques, and musical storytelling.

Creative Concept & Execution

Audio Production

A hybrid composition that blends real audio with MIDI-generated elements. Live instruments were recorded in a studio environment and digitally layered with MIDI accompaniments to create a cohesive soundscape.

Acoustics / Ode / Untitled

A trio of loop-based compositions created using MIDI, samples, and experimental layering techniques. These were intended as short exercises in structure, tone, and atmosphere. While nontraditional in form, they were often repurposed as background scores for other student projects.

Aluminum Shuffle

Co-written and performed live with two classmates, this piece fused elements of rock music with modern technology. It combined live instruments with pre-recorded loops and real-time synthesized sounds to create an interactive, experimental listening experience. Part of the performance’s goal was to explore how audience perception could be influenced by manipulation of sound through technology and speaker placement.

Reception

Most pieces were showcased in-class as part of the ongoing Audio Production curriculum. Peer feedback was part of the review process, and while the music wasn’t publicly released, it contributed to a shared understanding of the craft.

For “Aluminum Shuffle,” audience reactions were mixed—some were drawn in by the unconventional structure, while others were unsure how to interpret the soundscape. The ambiguity itself was part of the experiment, reinforcing the idea that emotional response can be shaped through audio design and spatial acoustics.

Skills Demonstrated

• Multi-Track Audio Mixing
Mixed layered audio compositions using live and MIDI sources in Pro Tools.

• Loop-Based Composition
Created ambient and rhythmic pieces using sample libraries and sequencing tools.

• Live Performance & Audio Integration
Designed and executed a mixed-media performance using live instrumentation and digital playback.

• Technical Experimentation
Explored speaker placement and spatial sound design to influence audience perception.

• Collaboration & Peer Feedback
Worked with classmates to develop and refine audio compositions, integrating technical and creative input.
